The house and its history

Les Battées was originally the centre of a wine-growing estate of 105 hectares, producing the local sparkling wine, Crémant de Bourgogne in our vaulted stone cellars. The buildings are grouped on a rise above the town of St Légér-sur-Dheune, with an excellent view of the valley and the surrounding countryside.

The main house dates from the early 19th Century, and retains many original features, such as moulded plasterwork, marble fireplaces, and terracotta floor tiles. It is surrounded by a wooded park with a large orchard.

There are four guest rooms, situated on the first floor, with a separate entrance via the raised terrace. The suite/family room, which overlooks the wooded garden, comprises bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and sitting room/children’s room, with sofa bed. There are also two double rooms, with en-suite facilities. One overlooks the garden, while the other looks out over the main courtyard, with views across the valley. The twin room, also with en-suite facilities, overlooks the courtyard.

All the rooms have been decorated and furnished to a high standard, and in such a way as to preserve their original features, while enabling guests to enjoy the modern comforts they might expect. The proprietors, who live on the ground floor, are available for advice and assistance at all times.

All guests have access to our light and airy guest sitting room, also on the first floor, with French windows leading out onto the terrace. Here you are welcome to play board games, read, browse through information about the local attractions, or just relax with a drink.

The elegant raised terrace overlooks the shady wooded park, and in the summer is the venue for breakfast and dinner. Enjoy breakfast in the sun to the accompaniment of birdsong, and in the evening sip a glass of local wine while admiring the sunset over the valley and watching the stars come out.

There is also a small breakfast room with a kitchenette alcove where guests can make refreshments at any time. We are happy to assist families with small babies by heating bottles or babyfood in our microwave.
We can supply basic equipment, such as a cot and a high chair. A selection of toys for small children is available in the guest sitting room. If you need a cot please let us know at the time of booking.

All guests are welcome to use the garden, and wander through our orchard. Nature lovers will find that trees and bushes are teeming with wildlife. You may encounter a red squirrel, a mole, or even a dormouse on your rambles. There are also any number of lizards in residence, and a large bird population with interesting visitors including hoopoes and kites.

The trees themselves are worthy of attention, with many impressive specimens being present including Atlantic Cedar, Plane, Walnut, and Gingko, among others
