Colorado Peaks and Canyons
Vegetarian Friendly Black Canyon of the Gunnison- Mesa Verde-Great Sand Dunes- Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train
Trip Highlights: Colorado Peaks and Canyons features Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Great Sand Dunes, Durango, Silverton, the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We'll hike, raft, explore mining towns, waterfalls, enjoy fresh mountain air, hot springs and more!

Day 1
Depart Salt Lake City 5PM… We start this fantastic trip by picking up you and your fellow Adventurers in Salt Lake City. We'll prep you for your adventure and then enjoy a comfortable journey to our first destination…

Day 2
Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We'll gaze into this incredibly rugged and narrow canyon from the many hikes along the South Rim, or descend into the canyon a bit on the Oaks Flat Trail. We'll continue on to camp near our next destination…..

Day 3
Curecanti National Recreation Area is at the mouth of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We’ll get a view from the bottom of the canyon as we hike the Pine Creek Trail as it cascades into the depths of the upper Black Canyon and then hop on a pontoon boat ride through the upper Black Canyon. Later, we'll hike to the Dillon Pinnacles and soak in some hot spring fed pools!

Day 4
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Sand dunes, mountains, and wetlands. This park has it all! After playing about on the dunes, we'll cool off on an alpine hike into the shaded aspen groves, or hike to near by Zapata Falls! Perhaps we'll end the day with a soak in some hot springs under the stars?

Day 5
Durango, Colorado Spend the day exploring this historic bustling western town, or we'll arrange for a half day of white water rafting, mt biking, horseback riding, and more!

Day 6
Durango- Silverton Train. We'll start at 6500 feet in Durango, then hop on the train for a stunning ride along the Animas River to Silverton, almost 3,000 feet higher! You'll feel as though you've gone back a century in time when you step off the train in this old victorian mining town nestled in the San Juan Mountains.

Day 7
Mesa Verde National Park… Journey into some of the best preserved ruins in the world! Ranger guided tours of Cliff Palace and Balcony House will transport us into another time with a glimpse into the culture and traditions of the Ancestral Pueblans and the mystery of their disappearance. A short hike will take us to Spruce Tree House and petroglyphs.

Day 8
We'll roll back into Salt Lake City by noon, exchange emails and addresses, and say our goodbyes. We'll assist you with your shuttle ride to the airport, or suggest sites to see if you are staying in Salt Lake City for an extra day.


Trip Dates And Pricing
$925 + 6% Utah Sales Tax ($53.50) Departs and returns to Salt Lake City. Trip price includes all park entrance fees, camping fees and 70% of the meals.
