Costa Rica!Trip itinerary to Costa Rica:
Day one – Arrive in Costa Rica – private airport transfer from Liberia International Airport to El Ocotal Beach Resort.
This recently renovated 59-room hotel features spectacular panoramic ocean views and offers rooms set up on a cliff, as well as down on the beach. Each room features ocean view terrace, room service, a/c, cable TV, refrigerator, hair dryer and phone. Upgrades are available to bungalows and spacious suites. Amenities and services include full dive shop, resort shuttle, complimentary use of kayaks, 3 restaurants, bars, 3 swimming pools, Jacuzzi, lighted tennis courts, full spa services and water sports. The calm waters surrounding the resort cater to all water sport enthusiasts, from scuba diving and sport fishing to swimming and kayaking. This evening enjoy a welcome party with 1 hour open bar and an appetizer buffet.
Day two –
Many tours to choose from a zipline canopy tour, snorkeling, kyaking, and whitewater rafting.
KOKOdrilo Creek – The adventure starts at La Plazuela Hotel, where experienced guides will escort you to the river put in, for the floating trip along the Tempisque River. Once our adventure begins, you will be on the lookout for different animal species that might be seen along the shores of this magnificent tropical river, such as the Mantled Howler Monkey, the American Crocodile and several species of birds. On the river take out, you will hop on your horse, and ride on forest trails along the shores of the Tempisque, for some 45 minutes until you reach the base of the first platform to zip through the forest. Our canopy offers 8 platforms and 6 cables; some of the cables are close to the ground. After all the action, you deserve a special typical treat at La Plazuela Hotel, where you will be staying over for lunch, before getting ready for your trip back to your hotel.
Palo Verde National Park: A trip along the Tempisque and Bebedero Rivers will take us to Palo Verde National Park. Mangroves abound. The best bird watching for aquatic species is round right here, as the park is favored by many migratory birds as they escape the cold winters in North and South America. At the same time the areas density gives it a rich mix of mammal, amphibian and reptile life including the famous crocodiles. An expert naturalist guide will explain all the facets of the park, which simply by itself is a great oasis of Guanacaste’s plains. At the end of your river trip you will stop at the river’s edge to have lunch at a picnic spot. After lunch you will begin the return to your beach hotel, passing through peaceful villages along the way.
Day three –
Free day to enjoy the beach and relax. Optional activities in the area include adventure canopy tour by harness and pulley, scuba diving, sport fishing, horseback riding, hiking in Santa Rosa National Park, geothermal lakes and forest of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, and more. This evening enjoy an special farewell dinner with 2 hour open bar. Overnight El Ocotal Beach Resort.
Day four - time to come home – A private shuttle will transport you back

PRE-PACKAGE EXTENSION:
Day 1:Depart Washington DC bound for San Jose, Costa Rica.
Upon arrival take the complimentary shuttle to the San Jose Marriott Hotel for overnight. Set on a coffee plantation, this Spanish colonial-hacienda style deluxe resort – located only a few minutes from the international airport and a few minutes from downtown San Jose - offers spacious rooms, large outdoor swimming pools, health club, whirlpools, putting green and driving range, martini bar, salon and full-service amenities such as room service and concierge. In room luxuries include: voicemail, data ports on phones, high speed internet access, mini-bar, hairdryer and bathrobe.
Day 2: Early morning pick up for the approximate 3 hour ground transfer (with a stop for breakfast) to the private dock for a scenic 2 hours boat ride to Tortuguero on the northern Caribbean coast. Arrive Mawamba Lodge, located on a sand bar between Tortuguero Lagoon and primitive beaches of the Caribbean, for overnight. The lodge offers comfortable rooms, a private dock on the canals, 2 family style restaurants and swimming pool with bar. The lodge is a good base for exploring Tortuguero National Park's (pay entrance upon arrival) slow moving jungle canals and tropical lowland forest. This afternoon take an optional tour of the village of Tortuguero and/or visit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation Museum.
Day 3: Today tour the canals by boat with local guides to observe the flora and fauna of the area. Look for beautiful shore birds, lizards, toucans, monkeys, caimans, and sloth. You will have the opportunity to hike the jungle trails to an amazing vista overlooking the ocean and forest or walk into town. Optional night boat tours are available at additional cost (turtle nesting is from July to October). Overnight Mawamba Lodge.
Day 4 This morning transfer to the local airstrip for a short flight back to San Jose. Upon arrival you will take a scenic drive with your driver/guide to the Arenal Volcano. En route you will stop at La Paz Waterfall Gardens for an up close view at a system of 5 different waterfalls and for lunch. After lunch continue to Arenal. Arrive at the Hotel Arenal Manoa, a beautiful place to rest, relax and enjoy the marvelous view of the Arenal Volcano. Visitors have an impressive view of this “giant which rumbles” and erupts with spectacular displays of vapor and lava. Surrounded by gardens, pastures and animals, the rooms have been designed so that each one offers you a panoramic view of the volcano.
Day 5: This morning enjoy a hike with your guide inside the Arenal National Park through rainforest where monkeys, toucans and parrots are frequently seen. Continue over a cold blocky lava flow from Arenal Volcano that formed in 1992 and provides panoramic vistas of the volcano, forests, mountains and Arenal Lake. In the afternoon visit the Arenal Hanging Bridges a complex of 6 hanging suspension bridges rising above the jungle canopy, and almost 2 miles of brick & concrete trails through the lush Rain Forest. The bridges provide an excellent vantage point to observe the flora and fauna from the ground level to the top of the trees. The chain link fence on either side of each bridge is about 50” high, so there is little chance of anyone slipping through. Walk the trails where you will see many varieties of heliconias, flowering ginger, hear howler monkeys, and see many varieties of butterflies, as you learn about the complexity and beauty of the Rain Forest. Remainder of the day free. Overnight at Hotel Arenal Manoa.
Day 5: Ground transfer about 4-5 hours to the Northern Pacific Coast – meet up with the group at El Ocotal.
