Location

ORA ORA ECO WELLNESS RESORT is nestled in the historic and nature reserve of Kerikeri at the tip of the Inlet, directly opposite the little yacht harbour and New Zealand's oldest buildings, the Kerikeri Mission House (1822) and the Stone Store (1836).  UNESCO World Heritage Park status are in consideration!

Kerikeri is an important place in this popular holiday area Bay of Islands. There are about 5 daily 40-minutes-flights between Auckland and Kerikeri.  It takes about 10 minutes by car from ORA ORA RESORT to this Bay of Islands Airport, and 1 minute from the plane to the greeting area.

By car, the scenic 270 km journey from Auckland to Kerikeri will take you about 3 1/2 hours of easy driving and sightseeing.  Comfortable public buses run daily from Auckland city and airport, taking about 4 hours.

Kerikeri village centre is about 2 km from ORA ORA RESORT, which is close to all amenities, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Touristy Paihia and Russell are reached by car in about 30 minutes.

Kerikeri is the ideal location for exploring the numerous attractions of the Bay of Islands as well as the other northern bays and the most northern tip Cap Reinga.

Good news: Heavenly quiet since through traffic stopped in the Stone Store Basin since June 23, 2008.  The new Heritage By-Pass is open and the Stone Store Bridge will be removed.  Thus, a visit to the Cradle of the Nation will be so much more enjoyable!  As maps might reflect the changes with delays, please follow the below directions at "How to find us"

How to Find Us

By car: Drive north from Auckland on State Highway 1 through Kawakawa (stop at the famous Hundertwasser Toilets) and Moerewa.  Turn into State Highway 10 towards Kerikeri and turn right towards Kerikeri at the round-about.  Pass straight through downtown Kerikeri (straight at 2 round-abouts) and at the next round-about turn left into the new Heritage By-Pass.  At the end, turn right into Waipapa Road and right again into Landing Road at the round-about. Soon you will see the large ORA ORA RESORT sign on your right at 28 Landing Road.

If you drive from the North on State High Way 10, follow the sign to Kerikeri at Waipapa to the left, continue on Waipapa Road, drive straight at the first round-about and turn right at the next round-about into Landing Road.  Soon you will see the large ORA ORA RESORT sign on your right.

If you fly to Bay of Islands Airport in Kerikeri, we will gladly meet you there to bring you to ORA ORA RESORT, if you have not arranged for a rental car already.

In case of travelling by Northliner or Intercity bus, we will meet you at the bus terminal in Kerikeri.

Climate

The Northland sea borders offer a very comfortable and pleasant sub-tropical climate.   We experience just three seasons in Kerikeri:  spring, summer and autumn.   However, locals call June, July and August "winter", although many plants are in flower, the vegetation is lush green and afternoon temperatures often reach 20o C / 68o F.  The mild climate is ideal for growing tropical plants and fruit, and coupled with the rich volcanic soil provides the basis for the regional extensive citrus fruit industry - come to see our own little orchard!

Sailing in the Bay of Islands

The summer months December, January, February are appropriately hot during the day (but not too hot), without the sticky humidity of the tropics, and comfortably cool at night.  Afternoon temperatures in spring and autumn are around 23o C / 73o F, a perfect condition for lots of outdoor activities
