A Taste of Health Holistic Cruise-The Ship

Costa Fortuna

Costa ushered in a new era of elegance at sea with the Costa Fortuna. Just as the “Holistic Holiday At Sea™ - Voyage To Well Being” is not a typical vacation cruise, the new eco-friendly Costa Fortuna is not a typical cruise ship. The Costa Fortuna is an Italian masterpiece. Combining the Old World sophistication of European design with state-of-the-art American comforts and conveniences, at 890 feet in length and 124 feet in width, the Costa Fortuna is one the largest ships to ever fly the Italian flag. She cruises the Caribbean and Mediterranean in a class all her own. And so will you.

At a cost of approximately $600 million, the Costa Fortuna is a floating palace with every amenity offered for the enjoyment of her guests. The finest designers and architects spared neither effort nor expense in creating this extraordinary cruise liner. She is most noted for her extraordinary interiors with 5,000 works of art and the detail and craftsmanship of her elegant furnishings.

Costa Fortuna has drawn inspiration from the grand Italian steamships of yesteryear that provided regular passenger services between Italy and the Americas. Throughout this Costa cruise ship, scale models of historic cruise ships have been incorporated into the style and design of the Costa Fortuna’s various restaurants and other public areas. For more recent history of these cruise ships, guests can view a tribute to the first (and leading) Italian Cruise Company by glancing up at the ceiling of the main lobby known as the Costa Atrium where models of 26 past members of the Costa fleet are displayed.

The Fortuna offers a stunning array of amenities that impart a mysterious and elegant quality. Holistic Holiday at Sea guests will dine in the spacious and elegant Michelangelo restaurant adorned with reproductions of Michelangelo’s frescoes on the ceiling and featuring a 19 ft. scale model of the transatlantic liner, the Michelangelo, at the entrance. More of the ship’s most defining features include a towering, 9-story domed atrium with glass elevators; a children’s splash pool, a central salt water pool, and an aft salt water pool where guests can swim in any weather thanks to a retractable magrodome roof; 2 magnificent split-level restaurants; self service buffet; specialty restaurant; pizzeria; 1300 person capacity theater extending over three decks; 2 story disco; 11 lounges; an internet café and casino. Another one of the highlights onboard the Costa Fortuna is the spacious wellness area, equipped with an ultramodern gym overlooking the sea as well as Turkish bath and other beauty treatments.

During your free time between lectures, yoga, Pilates, meditation, cooking classes, and workshops, refresh yourself in one of the Fortuna sparkling swimming pools. And rejuvenate in the world-class 4600 sq ft Saturnia Spa. There are intimate lounges, a glass-enclosed observatory high atop the ship, and even tennis and basketball courts and a jogging track. From sun-up to bedtime, you’ll find activities to suit your changing moods. Whether you want to kick up your heels at the disco, go to a movie or show, or just kick back and relax in a lounge chair overlooking the Caribbean, you will never have a dull moment.

The Fortuna is a moving city of international guests. Enjoy all her amenities while having the learning experience of your life in the company of other like-minded guests and world leaders in the field of holistic living. Holistic Holiday at Sea™ is truly a vacation with a purpose!

The Costa Fortuna has been awarded the prestigious Green Star Logo for environmental excellence.

Taste of Health is proud to have its annual Holistic Holiday at Sea aboard some of the world’s most ecologically friendly passenger cruise liners. The Costa Mediterranea and its sister ship, the Costa Atlantica, Costa Magica, and Costa Fortuna have all been awarded the prestigious Green Star Logo by RINA, the main Italian classification society for environmental concerns.

We are very proud to be awarded the Green Star logo by RINA for the second time, - stated Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa Crociere Chairman and CEO - “This is for us an acknowledgment further to our commitment to protect the environment. This commitment is also demonstrated by the fact that we have an Environmental Compliance Department fully dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the environmental compliance of all our ships. The Department consists of a staff of four people shoreside who supervise and coordinate the Environmental Officers aboard.. My special thanks go to all our employees for their efforts, to Kvaerner Masa Yards staff for their co-operation and to RINA for this prestigious award.

There are very few passenger ships that have been awarded the Green Star Logo for environmental excellence. The award requires strict adherence to both clean sea and clean air regulations.

The leading features of the CLEAN SEA regulations is that bunker tanks must be installed over double bottoms, to prevent accidental discharge of oil in a low speed accident. Ships must also be fitted with holding tanks for all black and grey water waste, to prevent organic pollution, and must meet the standards set down in the voluntary IMO MARPOL Annex Special requirements to ensure garbage is disposed of safely, and ships must use TBT-free anti-fouling paints.

The CLEAN AIR notation sets limits on SOx and NOx emissions from the engines, and requires compliance with the voluntary standards of Annex VI to Marpol. RINA also sets requirements for refrigeration gases and their containment in the case of an accident, and sets controls for incineration plants.

A Taste Of Health is a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to organic, sustainable living and holistic health. We make every effort to form business relationship with companies that are environmentally friendly.
