Itinerary

Day 1 – Phoenix, Arizona

Spend two nights at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and visit the greatest national parks of the Southwest! Your adventure begins in Phoenix, Arizona. Transfer from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport by hotel courtesy shuttle to your hotel. Rooms are available for check in after 3:00 p.m. Join Caravan for a   6:00 p.m. welcome briefing.

Day 2 – Sedona, Grand Canyon

Drive through Scottsdale and along Camelback Mountain on your morning sightseeing. Next, visit Montezuma Castle, site of 12th and 13th century Native American cliff dwellings. Continue to the artist colony of Sedona, surrounded by towering red rock formations. You have free time in Sedona to explore galleries, shops and restaurants. Continue through scenic Oak Creek Canyon. Arrive at the Grand Canyon for a relaxing two-night stay. Your lodge is inside the Grand Canyon National Park, near the South Rim. Enjoy dinner at the Grand Canyon. Elevation at the South Rim averages 7,000 feet. BD

Day 3 – Grand Canyon National Park

Entire day to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Almost 280 miles long, the Grand Canyon varies in width from one to eighteen miles. Over millions of years the mighty power of the Colorado River carved out this vast canyon. Your morning sightseeing drive includes a visit to Yavapai Point for impressive views of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River one mile below. The rest of your day is at leisure to enjoy Grand Canyon National Park. You can take a free shuttle bus to the many lookout points on the West Rim, including Hermits Rest Lookout. You have plenty of time to hike on Bright Angel Trail into the Grand Canyon, or hike along the rim trails. You can also visit the historic Grand Canyon Park buildings, Hopi House and Lookout Studio. Relax and enjoy Grand Canyon vistas, or see one of the daily park ranger talks. You stay two nights here inside Grand Canyon National Park, allowing you time for a comprehensive visit inside the Grand Canyon National Park. Best of all, you'll enjoy two opportunities to see Grand Canyon sunsets and sunrises. B

Day 4 – Grand Canyon, Lake Powell

Enjoy breakfast at historic El Tovar Lodge on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Next, drive along the scenic East Rim of the Grand Canyon to visit Desert View Lookout. Then, visit a Navajo and Hopi Trading Post. Here, you will find a large selection of high quality Hopi and Kachina dolls and fine Native American jewelry and handicrafts. Next, drive over the Glen Canyon Dam to 185 mile long Lake Powell. Arrive at Lake Powell Resort on the shores of Lake Powell. This afternoon enjoy a scenic boat cruise through Lake Powell’s Antelope Canyon lined with rich red sandstone walls. Enjoy a relaxing two-night stay at Lake Powell Resort. B

Day 5 – Monument Valley, Jeep Tour

Breakfast in your resort’s famous Rainbow room with 180 degree sweeping views of Lake Powell. This morning enter the Navajo Indian Nation. Enjoy a guided jeep tour of the restricted backcountry of Monument Valley, a beautiful, pristine area of buttes and arches accessible only with authorized Navajo guides. John Ford, the filmmaker, discovered the rugged beauty of Monument Valley in the 1930’s. Western classics, such as “Stagecoach,” “The Searchers,” and “Once Upon a Time in the West” were filmed in Monument Valley. Hollywood legends as Maureen O’Hara, John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart filmed westerns here. Return to Lake Powell. B

Day 6 – Bryce Canyon National Park

Enjoy breakfast in the Rainbow room. Next visit Bryce Canyon. See the Bryce “Hoodoos,” fantastic red, orange and pink limestone spirals. This afternoon enjoy stops at Bryce Point and Sunrise Point, overlooking the stunning Bryce Amphitheater. Overnight in picturesque Kanab with an elevation of 5000 feet. Kanab is known as Western Hollywood. Over 100 western movies and TV shows were filmed here including "Gunsmoke," "The Lone Ranger," "Wagon Train," and "How the West Was Won." Look for colorful sunsets which transform the nearby cliffs into brilliant shades of red, orange and pink. B

Day 7 – Zion National Park

This morning drive to Zion Park. See a wonderland of rock monoliths. Zion features stunning scenery found nowhere else on earth and is a geological showplace with sandstone cliffs among the world’s highest. Early settlers were so inspired by Zion’s beauty that they bestowed exalted names on the park’s natural features. See East Temple, the Court of the Patriarchs and the Great White Throne. With Caravan, you overnight at the only lodge inside Zion National Park. Stroll the beautiful grounds of your lodge ideally situated in the center of the valley floor. Marvel at the cliffs towering above. Enjoy leisure time this afternoon. You may wish to take the free Zion Canyon shuttle or hike the Park's scenic walking trails near your lodge. Enjoy dinner at Zion Park. BD

Day 8 – Zion Park to Las Vegas, Nevada

After breakfast at Zion Park Lodge, Caravan transfers you from Zion Park to Las Vegas, Nevada. Enjoy a brief sightseeing drive of the dazzling Las Vegas strip. Arrive at the Las Vegas airport at 1:00 p.m. Schedule flights after         3:00 p.m. Thanks for vacationing with Caravan. B

Day 1 – Phoenix, Arizona

Central to Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe, Doubletree Guest Suites Phoenix-Gateway Center features beautiful, newly renovated two room suites within walking distance of boutique shopping and dining. Local golf courses and tennis courts are a short drive away. The hotel has a bar/lounge, swimming pool, fitness center, television, wetbar, speaker phones, high speed internet access, and data ports.

Day 2, 3 – Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon Park Lodges: Thunderbird / Maswik / Kachina / Yavapai
Thunderbird, Kachina, Maswik and Yavapai National Park Lodges are located on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The great location within the Park gives you easy access to the numerous canyon trails and walkways of the South Rim. Staying on the actual Rim, instead of outside the Park, also gives you a chance to see the beautiful, dazzling colors of sunrise and sunset over the Canyon, considered by many to be the most spectacular in all of North America.

Note: All Lodges are at Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Elevation at the South Rim averages 7,000 feet.

Days 4, 5 – Lake Powell

Lake Powell Resort
The Lake Powell resort, formerly known as Wahweap Lodge, is located in northcentral Arizona on the Arizona Utahborder. Lake Powell Resort and Marina is a modern southwest stucco resort with a spectacular view of Lake Powell. It has a swimming pool, fitness center, bar/lounge and room service. You have dinner with Caravan at Lake Powell Resort’s world famous Rainbow room with its 180 degree sweeping views of Lake Powell.

Day 6 – Kanab, Utah

Comfort Inn
The newly renovated Comfort Inn is situated on a bluff overlooking the town of Kanab, Utah. Kanab is located just north of the Arizona border, in Utah's scenic Southwest, between Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Kanab was the center for the filming of over 100 Western and other films. The hotel has a whirlpool and a seasonal outdoor pool.

 
 

Day 7 – Zion National Park

Zion Park Lodge
Zion Park Lodge is the only lodging located inside Zion National Park. The lodge is situated in the center of the valley floor and surrounded by spectacular 2,000 foot sandstone canyon walls. The exterior of the lodge has been restored to its original 1920's classic appearance. All rooms feature air conditioning, phones, radio alarm clocks and hairdryers. Zion Park offers a diverse selection of picturesque trails ranging from short, easy jaunts to strenuous adventures. Some of the trails begin immediately outside the lodge.

 
 

 Airport Transfer Information

Arrival Transfers

Caravan’s Phoenix, Arizona hotel, the Doubletree Suites (320 North 44th St.) provides a courtesy shuttle from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Upon arrival, request a pickup using the Doubletree’s courtesy phone at the baggage claim area or call the hotel directly at: 602-225-0500. The shuttle operates 24 hours daily. Taxis cost approximately $15.00 and take 10 minutes.

Departure Transfers

Caravan provides a departure transfer to McCarran Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, Nevada on the day the tour ends, arriving by 1:00 p.m. Please schedule flights after 3:00 p.m. If you wish to extend your stay in Las Vegas, taxis and shuttles are available from the airport. (Las Vegas regulations prohibit Caravan’s motorcoach from making stops at individual Las Vegas hotels.) Taxis cost $15.00 and take 25 minutes. There are several airport shuttle services located near the dropoff point. The airport shuttles depart every ten minutes and the cost is $5.00 per person each way. The shuttle transfer time to hotels is approximately 45 minutes. No advance reservations are necessary from the airport.

Clothing Tips

This is a predominantly casual tour. Casual wear is suggested for sightseeing and daytime travelling. A good pair of tennis shoes or hiking shoes is recommended for walking in the parks. Please bring a sweater or jacket to wear on the air conditioned motorcoach, and to wear at night at higher elevations such as the lodge at the Grand Canyon. Please bring a lightweight rain poncho in case of rain. Dress code for most evenings is smart casual.

What is included in the tour price?

Virtually everything! Hotels, most meals, all of the activities described in the itinerary pages, airport transfers in select cities, gratuities to hotel porters, restaurant staff and local guides. Caravan’s professional Tour Directors and local guides will be with you every step of the way, ensuring a worry free vacation.
 

What is not included in the tour price?

Prices do not include air travel, airport porter fees, visas, phones, laundry, all items of a personal nature, food and beverages not on the regular menu. Tips to the Caravan Tour Director and Driver are not included. General fees and taxes are additional and listed separately beneath each tour’s price.
 

Can your tours be enjoyed by all age groups?

Yes. Usually you find a mix of different age adult travelers on a Caravan Tours. Most tours will be joined by adults of all ages. Childen age five (5) and over are welcome, and children usually join tours offered during Christmas holidays, summer vacation and spring break vacation.
 

Do your tours include any evening activities?

Yes. Park ranger programs are given nightly at the Grand Canyon National Park and at Zion Lodge.
 

How long will each day be?

A well paced and unhurried itinerary is our goal, after all, you are on vacation! Touring days begin and end at reasonable hours and include frequent stops. Tours usually depart in the mornings between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and arrive in the afternoon at your destinations. We do our best to ensure a leisurely vacation.
 

How large will my group be?

Group sizes will vary depending on the reserved rooms at the hotels and lodges and the capacity of the motorcoaches used. Usually, the tour group size will range from 36 to 44 passengers.
 

Are meals included?

Included meals for each tour are listed at the end of each day. Meals are shown by B (breakfast), L (lunch) and D (dinner). All meals in Latin America are included. Most meals are included in the USA and Canada. Full, buffet, or deluxe continental breakfasts are included everywhere. Coffee and tea are provided at all meals. In Latin America, bottled water is provided free on the motorcoach and purified water is provided at the meals. Alcoholic beverages are not included unless specified.
