Nairobi, Kenya's Capital is a well-planned modern city of over three million inhabitants. It is justly described as a garden city as its broad avenues are lined with flowering plants and shrubs. Situated at an altitude of 1600 meters, it enjoys hot sunny days and cool evenings. Places of interest to the visitor include the Railway Museum, the ornate Jamia Mosque and the National Museum with its adjacent Snake Park and Aviary. There are several art galleries exhibiting work by local artists, displays of tribal dancing, two theatres, and variety of good restaurants and wealth of fascinating curio shops. | | Day 2 | Nairobi | Depart after breakfast for the drive to Machakos town. Visit Ukambani Wood Carvers where commercial wood carving in Ukambani was started by the late Mutisya Munge in 1918. In Kenya, The Akamba people are considered the best wood carvers. Here one witnesses the cradle of this art and the efforts being made to replace the Muvingo tree (ebony teak) the curvers used with alternative suitable and sustainable trees. Picnic lunch. Ideal place for wholesale buying of souvenirs. The surrounding areas have Forests, rocks and hills that are ideal for viewing and photography. A short distance away is Yatta plateau, the longest lava flow in the world. The area also has caves at Syokimau. The rocks and hills in the area mean that the place has potential to offer rock climbing. Afternoon depart for a tour of the Anti-gravity Site, which is 6 Kilometers from Machakos town. Kyamwilu or kwa Kiw'u as it known by the residents. The area has an anti-gravity phenomenon yet to be explained. Water poured on a slope flows upstream, a car left free without brakes slowly inches uphill. Later drive back to Nairobi and arrive in the late evening. Dinner and Overnight at COUNTRY LODGE. LDBB, | | Day 3 | Amboseli National Park | After breakfast morning drive to Amboseli National Park located along the Kenya Tanzania border. A brief stop over at Kajiado Girls High School and later proceed to Kibo Safari Camp and arrive in time for late lunch. Afternoon visit to Kajiado Girls School. Dinner and overnight at KIBO SAFARI CAMP. LDBB
With snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro 'The roof of Africa' proudly standing at 19,344ft ever present in the background on a clear day, Amboseli - 3,810 Sq. Kms, is justly famous for its big game and scenic beauty. Kilimanjaro is the highest single mountain in the world and the tallest part of Africa. Game viewing is particularly easy in this Park. There is a permanent concentration of animals in the area centered on the dry salt lake at Ol Tukai. Amboseli is noted for its now dwindling black rhino population, The 56 wildlife species found in Amboseli include Lion, resident herds of elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, baboon, velvet monkey, Grants gazelle and other plains game. Cheetahs are frequently seen and there are hippos in the swamps. Birds are numerous and a special attraction in the lake and marsh area. | | Day 4 | Amboseli National Park | Spend a further day in Amboseli National Park, with morning and afternoon game drives. All meals at the Camp. Overnight at KIBO SAFARI CAMP. LDBB | | Day 5 | Lake Naivasha | After breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha via Nairobi to arrive in time for early lunch at an African Restaurant. Drive down to the floor of the Rift Valley escarpment with a stop at Elementaita Weavers' craft Centre before proceeding to Elsamere House.. Afternoon boat ride and visit to the nearby Crescent Island. Our day ends with tea and sandwiches on the lawns of Elsamere House, the former home of Joy Adamson who reared the lioness Elsa, immortalized in the book and film 'Born Free'. Lake Naivasha is surrounded by stands of papyrus and is a bird-watcher's paradise. Water birds exist in great variety and abundance. Fish eagles and ospreys, herons and egrets, lily-trotters, red-knobbed coots and black crakes can be found within the area of this beautiful lake. In addition to the bird population, over 500 hippos reside in the lake. | | Day 6 | Maasai Mara Game Reserve | After early breakfast, morning drive across the Rift Valley floor to Maasai Mara Game Reserve arriving in time for lunch at Nyumbu Camp. After some time to settle in you'll have lunch and time to relax before departing on your afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at NYUMBU CAMP LDBB
The Maasai Mara National Reserve (1,812 sq Km), offers wonderful scenery and an abundance of big game. With its rolling plains and grasslands it is reminiscent of Hemingway Country. There are very large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and various antelope. In addition hippo, giraffe, rhino, elephant and leopard are frequently seen. But the Mara is renowned for its magnificent black-manned lions with their large prides that spend most of the day sleeping in the shade of the acacia trees. The Mara is also the scene of the spectacular migration of wild beast that comes through the Mara in their 1500km round annual trek from southern plains in the Serengeti. | | Day 7 | Maasai Mara Game Reserve | Breakfast at the camp followed by a morning walking safari with Maasai warriors. Lunch at the camp. Afternoon game viewing drive until sunset. Dinner and overnight at NYUMBU CAMP LDBB | | Day 8-9 | Maasai Mara Game Reserve | Spend two further days in the Mara with morning and afternoon game drives with picnic lunches. During your three days, you have the opportunity to explore this great reserve in depth. You will have the chance to see elephant, giraffe, prides of lion, and thousands of impala, topi, grants and Thomson's gazelle.
